The Nurse Practitioner applies advanced knowledge/clinical skills necessary to assess/manage the healthcare of individuals with life threatening illness.
Keys Responsibilities:
Performs health histories, physical exams and patient teaching. Orders, interprets and follows up on lab tests and results. Performs selected procedures and documents care orally and in writing. Initiates emergency measures as indicated. Recognizes abnormalities that justify immediate appropriate referral for intervention.
Initiates, evaluates, reviews and changes orders for selected medications and diagnostic studies/treatments within attending physician approved protocols.
Assesses, initiates and coordinates patient care on a daily basis within the scope of delegated acts or readily available consultation of supervising physician.
Requests consultation from all services as needed in collaboration with attending physician and/or established protocols.
Acts as liaison with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals managing the patient care.
Provides education, communication and support for healthcare staff, patients and families.
Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Maintains continuing education required for ongoing certification of APRN status and prescriptive authority.
Requirements:
Education: Masters degree in Nursing from accredited college/university; graduate of certified or accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience: 5-7 years nursing experience with 3 years experience as Nurse Practitioner; or Masters degree in Clinical Nursing and 5 years nursing experience and one year of experience with a frail or elderly population.
Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: RN licensure in SC and certification from SC State Board for Nurse Practitioner Program. Hold current prescriptive authority per SC State Board of Nursing.
Special Training: Ability to learn, teach, and research; ability to solve problems and think analytically; must possess skills necessary to treat patients, ability to get along with others in a team environment. Computer skills essential.
