The Nurse Leader, under general supervision from the Administrative Director, works collaboratively with administrative and physician leadership to oversee the day-to-day operations of the department. Oversees and coordinates the department¿s clinical practices by managing workflow, staffing and problem identification and resolution, process improvement, establishment of clinical policies and procedures designed to enhance the quality of patient care. Directly supervises the nursing, medical assistant, lab and EKG staff and performs human resource management responsibilities, which include but are not limited to recruitment, performance management and training. Provide effective response to patient issues, while serving as an advocate for patient care. Provide timely and successful cross coverage to the administrative support team to manage staffing and/or operational issues. Participate in programs and committees as a representative of the department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the daily clinical operations to ensure timely, appropriate and effective services are provided to patients. Oversee directly the clinical staff. Review and revise as needed:
- Workflow and staffing
- Clinical operational inefficiencies and process improvement
- Patient experience results
- Policy and Procedures
- Provider support requirements
Establish a culturally sensitive environment that is patient focused, safe and conducive to staff development.
Oversee the day-to-day performance of the clinical staff. Ensure staffing needs are met within each unit. Evaluate, develop and implement operational systems and procedures, to maximize the clinical workflow and create efficiencies.
Develop, implement and/or coordinate staff education and training for both personal and professional development utilizing department and hospital resources. Collaborate with department staff in the scheduling of mandatory hospital and JCAHO training requirements.
Actively participate in reward and recognition to recognize and support individual and team efforts. Conduct regularly scheduled meetings, which encourage and promote integrated team based care and support the teaching mission.
Evaluate the job performance of nursing, medical assistant, lab and EKG staff, utilizing staff and provider input.
Identify clinical operations improvement opportunities, through the participation of interdisciplinary collaboration for the planning and development of patient-focused programs.
Review and update job responsibilities and clinical competencies for all clinical staff. Monitor and utilize hospital resources for the ongoing training and support to meet the requirements of the staff’s respective positions. Provide recommendations for the further development and support of staff¿s individual professional growth.
Manage the recruitment process for clinical staff, conduct initial and annual performance evaluations, and corrective action activities in collaboration with Practice leadership, when necessary to improve performance. Maintain staff information on file
Work with Practice leadership to maximize the potential revenue from clinical base services and minimize expenses through the conservative management of salary expenses.
Participate as the Practice’s clinical nursing leader in department and hospital-wide clinical initiatives and committee¿s designed to enhance the patient experience, safety and quality of care.
Collaborate with nursing/clinical staff, administrative and physician members of the Practice to facilitate patient focused, team based care. Promote a collaborative and cooperative climate within the department and the units.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required, Master preferred
- MA state license in Nursing
- 5years Ambulatory nursing experience required
- 5 years Management/supervisory experience of a diverse population is required.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality, safe nursing care
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a staff of diverse employees.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible, highly organized and thoughtful, in a fast paced, complex academic teaching hospital environment
- Demonstrated effective analytical and creative problem solver, which will support sound decision-making.
- Demonstrated good computer skills and knowledge of clinical hospital applications
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative and independent judgement
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial information
